Polishing Essays Since 2008
College application essays often set you apart and serve as the deciding factor in college admissions. To optimize your chances for acceptance to your first-choice schools, Light Edits helps you to bring your essays to the polish point. Unlike other essay services, whose editors are anonymous, Light Edits is the home of Virginia (Ginny) Light, who offers a bespoke essay-application editing service, tailored to your individual needs.
Hi, I’m Ginny Light. I’m glad you are here.
Even before I taught upper-school English, when I served as a tutor and Teaching Associate at Fordham University and as a tutor/editor at the Chappaqua Learning Center, I noticed how anxious students became when asked to write essays. Although they needed to write in order to improve, they were afraid to do so because they wanted their work to be perfect. I reminded them, however, that making errors is an optimal way to learn.
By senior year, no matter what stage of essay writing students are at, along comes the need to write application essays. Yet seniors have busy lives, consumed with studying for AP classes, preparing to take standardized tests, engaging in extracurricular activities, spending time with peers, working after school, and/or planning to live on their own for the first time. They write their Common Application and supplemental essays but do not have the bandwidth to develop all the skills they need to craft a perfect document. And there is a world of pressure because college application essays often set students apart and serve as the deciding factor in college admissions.
Unlike other essay services, whose editors are anonymous, I offer a bespoke essay-editing service, tailored to a student’s individual needs. To optimize students’ chances for acceptance to their first-choice schools, I bring their essays to the polish point. To use another metaphor: Students are the table builders. The ideas and content are theirs. All I do is polish the table to help the natural grain to look more vibrant.
I offer a complimentary initial consultation with the student and parent(s) to discuss essay needs.
