The Process
After an initial complimentary consultation, I meet with students, either online or, if students live in Fairfield, Connecticut, in their public library’s reading room, for a brainstorming session to get them started on their essays.
When they have completed a draft, they send it to me in a Google doc for comments and questions to inspire revision.
After they have revised their essay, they send their “final” draft to me to polish, meaning that I clean up grammar, usage, and mechanics, using Standard American English.
How long does it take to clean up a draft?
Polishing and editing time varies, depending on the quality of the student’s writing. For the Common Application essay, for example, I usually spend 1 to 2 hours editing. Supplements vary timewise, too.
